EPDM elastomers are an excellent material for sealing brake systems and in hot water and steam applications. Due to its outstanding resistance to extreme range of temperature ranging from (-51`C to 149`C) and it has good retention of compression.

In addition EPDM elastomer perform good resistance to mild acids, detergents, alkalis, silicone oils and greases, ketones, and alcohols. EPDM is widely accepted by user in the seal industry by its excellent chemical resistance properties and its superb ozone resistance. 

The down side for applications with petroleum oils, mineral oil, die-ester lubricants or fuel exposure EPDM is not recommended.

Other than the size and material type, there is one final option that you need to take in consideration. And that is the Durometer. Durometer are being classified as an industry standard to measure the elastomer hardness. Durometer is measured and listed in accordance with “Shore A” scale.
