What is an AC Axial Fan?

AC axial fans are used when DC voltage is not available and are designed to create airflow with a high flow rate and medium pressure. Axial fans have an impeller surrounded by blades which works in a similar way to a propeller. The motor of the fan is integrated into the hub of the impeller to provide a compact fan unit. The impeller draws in air axially in a parallel direction to the revolving motor shaft and forces air out in the same direction. The axial fan is surrounded by a flanged housing with mounting holes allowing it to be mounted inside the equipment.

External Rotor Motor
Unlike traditional internal rotor motors where the rotating shaft is surrounded by electromagnetic coils, ebm-papst fans feature an external rotor motor. In an external rotor motor, the magnetic coils are encased inside a rotating shell. The advantage of this design is that external rotor motors are more compact in size, running more efficiently and are less prone to overheating than internal rotor motors.
